Seafood production in the first 10 months up 5.4%

According to Directorate of Fisheries, total seafood production
in October 2019 reached 707.4 thousand MT, accumulated from the beginning of
2019, the total output is estimated at 6,672.3 thousand MT, up 5.4% over the
same period in 2018, of which, capture output is estimated at 3,203.3 thousand
MT and aquaculture production is 3,469 thousand MT.
According
to the preliminary data of General Department of Vietnam Customs, the seafood
export value in the first half of October 2019 reached US$ 362.7 million. The accumulated
export value is US$ 6,584.4 million, equaling 97.4% year-on-year, reaching
62.7% of the plan (US$ 10.5 billion)
For aquaculture, as of October, 2019, the brackish water shrimp
farming area reached 713,402 ha, an increase of 0.1% compared to the same
period in 2018, of which the area of tiger shrimp farming was 613,662 ha, the area
of whiteleg shrimp farming was 99,74 ha. The harvest yield reached 600,874 M, an
increase of 4.4% compared to the same period in 2018, of which, the output of
black tiger shrimp was 2141,173 MT and the output of whiteleg shrimp was 386,701
MT.
Based on information
from, the price of whiteleg shrimp with the size of 100 shrimps/kg in the North
is now stable at 85,000 VND/kg -100,000 VND/kg compared to September 2019. In
the Mekong Delta, the price of whiteleg shrimp ranges from 87,000 VND/kg to
100,000 VND/kg, an increase of 10,000 VND/kg compared to the end of September
2019. The tiger shrimp with the size of 40 shrimps/kg has the price at 240,000 VND/kg,
an increase of 20,000 VND/kg. In the Central region, the price of whiteleg
shrimp with the size of 100 shrimps/kg is stable, ranging from 89,000 VND/kg to
100,000 VND/kg.
For pangasius, as of October
21, 2019 the farming area was 6,329 ha, up 43% compared to the same period in
2018. The cumulative harvesting area was 4,589 ha, up 53% compared to the same
period in 2018. The country's pangasius production in the first 10 months of
2019 was estimated at 966,924 MT, down 3% compared to the same period in 2018. Currently,
the price of commercial pangasius type 1 fluctuates at 20,000 VND/kg - 22,000
VND/kg. The pangasius fingerlings price ranges from 18,000 VND/kg to 19,000 VND/kg (size of 1.5 - 2.5 cm).
For
capture fisheries, in October 2019, the weather at sea is quite favorable for
fishing activities. The production of longliners, purse seiners, and cast net
fishing vessels operating offshore areas is quite good. Trawlers have few days of
fishing, getting an average efficiency. The productivity of gillnetters decreases
and the output is low. Daily fishing activities in in-shore and coastal areas have
an average output and efficiency was not high.
In
November 2019, Directorate of Fisheries continues to carry out a number of key
tasks, specifically: Continuing to closely monitor stakeholders to finalize the
draft and submit to the Prime Minister for promulgation in the direction of
shifting from strategy to project on development of Vietnam's marine farming until
2030, with a vision to 2045; Organizing inspection of conditions for production
and nursing of aquatic breeds (for broodstocks) in Ninh Thuan province.
Establishing an inspection team to inspect establishments producing and
exporting shrimp broodstocks into Vietnam in host countries (Singapore and
Thailand); Organizing inspection teams to inspect establishments producing and
transporting brackish water shrimp breeds in provinces of Phu Yen, Binh Thuan
and Ninh Thuan; Organizing an inspection team to inspect and supervise aquatic
feeds, products for environmental treatment in aquaculture and to inspect food
safety management in aquaculture in some localities; Organizing meetings with
enterprises and associations to find out solutions to remove difficulties for pangasius
and brackish water shrimp chaired by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural
Development.
Regarding
capture fisheries, continuing to guide the implementation of the 2017 Fisheries
Law and its by-laws. Continuing to advise the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development on instructing localities to issue fishing licenses under the
Fisheries Law 2017. Continuing to monitor, guide, handle and inspect the validation
of catch certificates and statements and management of fishing vessels at ports
according to Circular No. 21/2018/TT-BNNPTNT. Continuing to guide localities to
well implement the directive on strengthening the management of seafood exploitation,
ensuring safety for people and fishing vessels operating at sea. Formulating a
scheme to negotiate with China on extending the validity of the Agreement to
submit to the Prime Minister for approval and organizing the granting of
fishing license in the Tonkin Gulf fishing area in 2019-2020 after the
Agreement is officially extended. Preparing content, programs and scenarios to
welcome EC’s Inspection Delegation to overcome yellow cards in localities and
Directorate of Fisheries.
Regarding fishery
resources protection, guiding localities to strengthen measures to manage and
protect rare, precious and endangered species. Advising to organize the day of
fish releasing with the aim to regenerate fishery resources in some localities.
Continuing to complete the explanation of master plan for fisheries protection
and exploitation. Coordinating with functional units to perform tasks of the
project on inland fishery resources investigation and marine fishery resources
investigation. Establishing the Steering Committee and Advisory Board, approving
the detailed cost estimate of the pilot project of establishing and operating
the Fishery Resource Maintenance and Protection Zone in the East Sea and
Southeast Asia.
