Vietnam has emerged as a global fish producer. Globally, the country is the fourth-largest producer of aquatic food and the third-largest fish exporter. Vietnam is at the frontline in meeting the global demand for aquatic foods. Aquatic food is increasingly becoming a primary source of protein and micronutrients, livelihoods, national economy, and well-being for Vietnamese.

Seafood export value in April 2021 was estimated at 650 million USD
The seafood export value in April 2021 was estimated at 650 million USD, bringing the seafood export value in the first 4 months of 2021 to 2.39 billion USD, up 6.1% over the same period in 2020. Japan, China and South Korea continue to be the top 4 import markets of Vietnamese seafood in the first 3 months of 2021, accounting for 57.2% of the total seafood export value. In the first 3 months of 2021, seafood export value increased in most markets. In which, the market with the strongest increase in value was Russia (+55%).

Pangasius before the opportunity to recover in the US
The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has just announced the preliminary decision of the 15th anti-dumping duty (CBPG) review of Vietnamese pangasius products. Accordingly, Vietnam's pangasius exports to the US are subject to 0% tax.

Shrimp exports to china recovered
After decling in the first months of 2019, Vietnamses shrimp exports to China began to recover from May to August with double-digit growth. In August 2019, Vietnamses shrimp exports to China rose by 30% to US$ 51.4 million. In the first eight months of 2019, shrimp exports to this market reached US$336.5 million, up 5% over the same period in 2018.

Thus, the trade surplus of agriculture, forestry and fishery products reached 6.86 billion USD, 957 million USD higher than the same period last year.

Seafood export turnover expected to reach 8.8 billion USD
In 2019, Vietnam's total fisheries output is estimated at over 8.1 million tons, of which capture fisheries is 3.707 million tons and aquaculture is 4.3 million tons. It is expected that the seafood export turnover will reach 8.8 billion USD, making an important contribution to the country's economic development, improving livelihoods, stabilizing fishermen's life.

Joining hands to protect the marine environment
Ca Mau is a coastal province with a coastline of about 254km long and a total sea area of approximately 80,000 square kilometers. This sea area was abundant in fisheries resources and diverse in species composition, however, nowadays, its marine environment is polluted. Therefore, the implementation of feasible solutions to reduce and prevent environmental pollution is an urgent issue, in which the 'Clean up the sea' campaign implemented by the Ca Mau Border Guard since 2016 that is a practical and effective activity.

Vietnam shrimp exports: Look back 20 years
Vietnam’s shrimp exports from 1998 to 2017 achieved the impressive growth of 752% from US$453 million in 1998 to nearly US$4 billion in 2017 (up 8.5 times). In the 20 years, despite facing many challenges, the shrimp industry still stands up to become the key export sector, bringing the highest turnover among export seafood products, contributing to the reputation of Vietnam's aquatic products on the international market.

Vietnam shrimp exports have strongly developed in last 10 years
After 10 years implementing the Resolution No 26-NQ/TW on agriculture, rural areas, farmers (2008 - 2018), Vietnam seafood export turnover doubled. In particular, shrimp exports accounted for the largest proportion and strongest and the most stable growth. After 10 years, shrimp export turnover increased nearly 2.5 times from $1.6 billion to nearly $3.9 billion, with an average annual growth of 9%. Shrimp exports account for a increasing share of total seafood exports: from 36% to over 50%.

China: Demand for shrimp imports remained stable
Contrary to the trend of 2017 with a growth rate of nearly 60%, Vietnam shrimp exports to China in 2018 witnessed a decline. From the 3rd position on Vietnam shrimp import markets in 2017, accounting for nearly 18%, this year, China dropped to the 4th position, accounting for nearly 14% of the total value of Vietnam shrimp export to the markets.
