The Prime Minister directed to strictly handle fishing vessels violating IUU fishing

Localities should focus on preventing and ending the situation of fishing vessels and local fishermen illegally fishing in foreign waters, strictly handling fishing vessels violating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing (IUU fishing).

The Prime Minister has just commented on the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to report on the results of implementation of the European Commission's recommendations on combating IUU fishing.

Specifically, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development together with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Information and Communications, relevant ministries, branches and the People’s Committee of coastal provinces and cities continue to focus resources, drastically and effectively implement the 2017 Fisheries Law and guiding documents and instructions including Official Order No. 732 / CĐ-TTg, Directive No. 45 / CT-TTg, Decision No. 78 / QD-TTg, Official Order No. 1275 / CD –TTg issued by the Prime Minister and other related documents.

The People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities shall strictly handle fishing vessels that violate or show signs of violation of IUU fishing, especially focusing on preventing and immediately ending the situation of local fishing vessels and fishermen illegally operate fishing activities in foreign waters under the direction of the Prime Minister in Directive No. 45 / CT-TTg, taking measures to deal strictly with cases of fishing vessels and fishermen violating.

In addition, provinces and cities actively increase resources to improve prevention and control of IUU fishing, effectively and progressively end the IUU fishing status at the locality, actively prepare for the upcoming working time with EC (expected in May 2019).
